REPORTS TO: Disaster Case Manager Supervisor

JOB OBJECTIVE: Under general supervision, counsels and aids disaster survivors, individuals and/or families requiring one or more forms of services to aid in disaster recovery; interviews clients experiencing disaster impact to finances, employment, food, housing, physical and mental impairments, and/or similar areas; secures and evaluates applicable related information; vets and refers clients to community resources and other organizations as appropriate outside of disaster recovery needs.

This is a temporary grant funded position expected to end on or before February 2026.

The essential job duties include but are not limited to:

• In either an office or a field setting, interviews clients about recovery needs such as personal and family adjustments, finances, employment, food, clothing, housing, and physical and mental impairments to determine nature and degree of need. Field visits may include home visits when clients are unable to travel to office or neutral location.
• Secures basic demographics along with recovery resources – insurance, savings, FEMA assistance, SBA assistance, USDA assistance, etc.; evaluates these together with client's outstanding disaster recovery needs.
• Aids clients in developing a recovery plan to achieve safe, sanitary, secure, and sustainable living, for those areas impacted by the disaster.
• Helps clients identify disaster and non-disaster needs in order that disaster case management services can be focused on attainable disaster recovery.
• Refers clients to community resources and other organizations as indicated for non-disaster related needs; may determine or participate in determining client's eligibility for financial assistance.
• Compiles records and prepares reports; develops and/or reviews recovery plan and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of service provided client and status of client's recovery case.
• Accesses and records client and community resource information, via case file and client database as outlined in program policies and procedures.
• May work in collaboration with other professional disciplines.
• Provide services that are culturally sensitive.
• Participate actively in community building and capacity to support recovery efforts. This may include attending long-term recovery groups, unmet needs meetings, publicly speaking when called to engage community partners, etc.
• Prepare and present case presentations that are accurate and appropriate based on a client’s recovery needs, while ensuring all supporting documentation has been obtained and recorded in the client’s case file.
• Display appropriate interventions to meet recovery goals and ability to set appropriate recovery limits.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:

• High school diploma; a Bachelor’s degree in a related social service field is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

• Good proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of community support services and funding agencies.
• Knowledge of psychosocial interviewing and counseling techniques.
• Records maintenance skills.
• Ability to drive and possess a clean driving record.
• Bilingual ability, a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• This is sedentary work that requires the following physical activities:
• Sitting for long periods of time, walking, finger dexterity, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
• Occasional lifting (up to 10 pounds of computer equipment or paper supplies).
• May be required to travel by car or plane to business events or other company locations. Travel may require prolonged sitting or standing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Normal office environment.
• May be subjected to fast-paced decision making, crisis situations.
