OKLAHOMA CITY – Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City raised a record-breaking $59,809 at its annual fundraising event, Reds, Whites & Brews, on July 22 at Dunlap Codding. The annual beer and wine tasting event exceeded attendance, sponsorship and revenue records. Proceeds support the services of the Sanctuary Women’s Development Center in Oklahoma City.
“We are thrilled with the overwhelming support of the event this year. It has been amazing to see this kind of generosity during tough economic times. It was fun, but it was also rewarding,” said Racheal Singley, director of Sanctuary Women’s Development Center.
The event featured tastings from 6 local breweries and 5 wineries. Ticket holders were also provided dinner, DJ entertainment and western-inspired games on the patio.
The evening concluded with the Change-A-Life raffle, an additional fundraising component during which a former client of Catholic Charities, Staffan Davis, explained the feelings of hopelessness and despair when faced with homelessness. She encouraged those in attendance to give to the program.
“I was homeless for a year and ten months. I lived out of my car. Catholic Charities, along with the ladies at Sanctuary, gave me hope and inspired me to motivate other women. I am a stronger woman now, and I plead with you to give to this cause so other women will not have to go through what I endured.”
Catholic Charities provided Davis with case management, counseling and other resources to help her gain employment and transition from homelessness into permanent housing.
Since 2009, Catholic Charities has served the vulnerable population at Sanctuary, located in the Stockyards of Oklahoma City. The center, which was a former mission church, provides assistance to homeless and at-risk women and their children. Resources are provided to help with basic needs such as hygiene needs, showers and laundry facilitie. Clients are assisted to find employment and housing.
In 2021, Sanctuary provided services to 1,300 women.
